Masterclass for Dancers

Friday 18 Oct, 10-12am
Hélène Cathala

In this class, Hélène Cathala will teach the basis of
her choreographic work through body explorations (Body Mind Centering) and precise exercises related to her experience as a dancer. This includes principally: how to be grounded, precise and fluid, how to be conscious of your body volumes and your own architecture. How to create movement by connecting intimate sensations and space awareness. The last part of the class will be dedicated to the teaching of dance vocabulary taken from the most recent company work.

Hélène Cathala is a famous dancer and choreographer in the French landscape. In the late 80’s she takes part in the creation of the last 6 pieces of legendary choreographer Dominique Bagouet’s company, as a permanent dancer and teacher. In 92, a life-changing encounter with Trisha Brown for the creation of “One story as in falling” modifies her approach to movement, pedagogy and show conception. After Bagouet’s death she takes part in the launching of Les Carnets Bagouets, dedicated to transmit and revive his repertoire. Since the 90′s, Hélène has been do-directing Company La Camionetta many years before founding her 5 company Hors-Commerce. She is also co-funder of Montpellier’s Fringe dance festival “Mouvements sur la Ville”.
